Holiday cottages to rent in Cornwall
The county of Cornwall
Sometimes called ”The Land of the Saints”, Cornwall (Cornish: Kernow) is steeped in its Celtic past. Separated from the rest of England by the River Tamar, Cornwall is a distinct and unique part of the British Isles.
Cornwall used to rely on tin mining and fishing but tourism has come to play an increasingly vital role in its economy. The combination of its mild, oceanic climate and its 200 miles of miles of contrasting coastline make it a great holiday destination at any time of year. The wilder, rugged north coast, pounded by the Atlantic Ocean, offers extensive stretches of fine golden sand and fantastic surfing beaches, while the more sheltered south coast, with its broad estuaries such as Falmouth and Fowey, offers safe anchorages for sailing and fishing fleets.
Inland, the granite uplands of Bodmin Moor are in stark contrast with the deep, wooded valleys close to the south coast, where you’ll find luxuriant sub-tropical gardens such as Heligan and Trebah. Set in a former china clay quarry, The Eden Project with its three, huge ‘biomes’ is Cornwall’s largest and most successful tourism attraction.
